Hello @ketchumuniversity family! My name is Aaron Hunro, PA-S2, here at Marshall B Ketchum University. I am a first-generation Cambodian-American but a second-generation PA. My father came here as a refugee and became a PA-C. #PALikePops. I decided to follow his footsteps and pursue medicine and care for my hometown. Long Beach, CA, is home of the largest population of Cambodians outside of Cambodia and our community is extremely underserved— as there are not very many Khmer-speaking healthcare providers. I take pride in being able to see patients in multiple languages (English, Khmer, and Spanish). I highly recommend taking Medical Spanish by the way.
During PA school, I was the co-president of the @mbku_pre_pa_club, as well as our class CAPA representative. I am also currently the PA Peer Advisor Coordinator and starting July 1st, will serve on @capaspeaks board as the PA Student Representative. I’ve presented at numerous universities and conferences sharing my story of taking “the scenic route to PA school”, some advice, as well as some mentoring. I’ve been blessed to earn multiple scholarships thus far in PA school (2019 MBKU PA Community Service Award, 2019 CAPA Ruth Webb Minority Student Scholarship, 2020 CAPA Community Outreach Student Scholarship, SPAS Leadership scholarship). I’m forever grateful for the opportunity my university and program gave me to pursue this profession.
My plan is to return to my community in Long Beach and practice in primary care to utilize and improve my trilingual skills to the best of my abilities. I also hope to return to my alma mater of Long Beach Poly HS to inspire the students to pursue a career in healthcare and medicine. This is my way of giving back to those who have given so much to me and the community who shaped me into who I am. My mantra is “Aspire to Inspire before you Expire” and my daily reminder to keep grinding is: The Marathon Continues. #TMC?
As a reminder, my opinions or views shared on the Instagram takeover do not represent those of MBKU, as a whole.
