Happy Commencement day, everyone, especially my classmates, the inaugural pharmacy "Class of 2020"!!!! Hats off to all of us!!! ????? My name is Sahar Matin, a member of the inaugural pharmacy class of 2020. Today, I am extremely honored to reflect on the past four remarkable years at MBKU as the class VALEDICTORIAN! (I heard it, I loved it, I earned it!!????). Over the past four years, I have been active in the College of Pharmacy, where I served as a school leader, instructed P1, P2, and P3 students, lead different student organizations, participated in scholar activities, and volunteered in so many community outreaches.
While fulfilling my academic responsibilities at MBKU, I was actively involved in leadership positions. I was selected as the very first peer tutor for the college of pharmacy and continued in this role for four years. I was enrolled in MBKU's Student Leadership Development Certificate program and served in numerous leadership positions on campus, including as University Student Executive Council Treasurer, University Social Media Ambassador, the COP Curriculum and Educational Committee Officer, Peer Advisor, and Interview Ambassador. I was also honored to receive awards recognizing my professional and academic achievements, such as the Student of The Year Award, Rho Chi Honor Society Award, Poster Presentation Award, Dean Executive Excellence Award, and the National Tylenol Future Care Scholarship.
Currently, I am a voting member of the CSHP Health Reform Committee; This is a unique opportunity to advocate for and enhance the pharmacy profession (my ultimate goal). My next stop will be the post-graduate pharmacy residency program (PGY1) at Providence Little Company of Mary in Torrence, CA. I am beyond excited to see different specialties, research opportunities, and multidisciplinary interactions. Eventually, I aspire to work in a clinical setting where I have the chance to teach and precept students!
