“Grit: Firmness of mind or spirit; unyielding courage in the face of hardship or danger.” That’s the Merriam-Webster dictionary definition of “grit,” that elusive trait that researchers are finding trumps intelligence, physical strength and academic prowess in predicting success. Those who’ve studied the trait believe its underpinnings are resilience and passion. If someone has passion for what they are doing and can adapt to an inevitably shifting terrain, they can attain their goals. Here we take a look at some of our students who’ve embraced grit to propel them to success.
